SOCIETY/IVORY COAST - African tradition/Sanhoukro: Aka Tanoh Jean enthroned Supreme Head of the great Elleigaman family

The worthy nephew, Aka Tanoh Jean, the heir of Ehouman Ahoussi, Africa Managing Director in charge of food risks for Vivo Energy, is officially Head of the large Elleigaman family. His induction took place on Saturday March 30, 2024, in Sanhoukro, a village in the Sud-comoé Region, Ivory Coast.

Like the young Badou Ahou Sabine, men were captivated by the harmonious rhythm of the instruments of the musical group commonly known as Les Princes Du Sanwi. They danced the abodan, a dance of rejoicing, to announce the enthronement of Aka Tanoh Jean as Supreme Head of the Elleigaman family.

“Among us, the Agni of Sanwi, the abodan is a dance of rejoicing. Today is a solemn day. I like the attoungblan, a talking drum used to communicate. I wanted to perform this dance when I heard the sound that the tom-tom produces,” informed Badou Ahou Sabine, a trader in the village.

The public ceremony took place in the presence of Nanan Séka, Chief of the village of Sanhoukro, and the Chiefs of neighboring villages. Indeed, the Elleigaman tribune, courageous and warlike, has three chairs. The main one is in Sanhoukro. Ehouman Ahoussi, who was the guardian, unfortunately bowed out. At the end of a council, Aka Tanoh Jean, his nephew was appointed new Head of the family.

Women and men of all generations within the music group cheered up the participants with songs in Agni, the vernacular language. The group's president, Diarra Karim, translated the pieces into French. According to him, the soloists praised the heir to the throne; he was urged to further unite members and friends of the Elleigaman family. Note that many delegations mobilized to show their love to Nanan Aka Jean. Nanan received gifts of inestimable value in Agni country, bottles of liquor, traditional fabrics,…

“We have come to support our brother in his heavy responsibility. Despite having spent around twenty years in London, the capital of England, he is interested in its culture, he is attached to tradition. All our congratulations,” rejoiced Arnaud Kadja, the president of the Mutual Society of Krindjabo natives (Mok).

Apart from the induction ceremony, the village of Sanhoukro hosted the 1st edition of the Kambonou Festival, from March 29 to April 1, 2024. Under the sponsorship of Nanan Séka, the event brought together residents around the theme: “Unity and cohesion factors of development”.
